Where To Start When Building Your Online Business

When I first started trying to make money on the Internet I was looking for fast money and so I (like most of us) gravitated toward affiliate marketing. If you don’t know what that is, affiliate marketing is promoting somebody else’s product for a cut of the profits.
Like many others I put a lot of effort into affiliate marketing and only made maybe a sale or two a month no matter what I tried.
What I’ve learned from Alex Jeffreys is that the best way to make money with affiliate marketing is to market to a list. And you can only build your list through selling your own or resale rights/PLR products . It was only after I started selling a PLR product that I started to make some consistant money.
If you decide to follow this path at first you will only be getting income from the sale of these products. But then as your list grows you will start to get commisions from marketing afffiliate products to your list.
When starting your business you want to build your brand and your list, you can’t do that by building landing pages for affiliate products. So I would recommend that you start with resale rights and PLR (private label rights) products.
With these you have many of the benefits of affiliate marketing (no product creation and very little out of pocket expense) plus you are in control and you keep 100% of the profits and build your brand and your list.
You can buy RR, MRR (master resale rights) or PLR products for less than you’ll make from one sale. Many come with a mini-site complete with sales copy already written, though you should rewrite these some to make them your own.
(For PLR products I would also suggest getting you own graphics. At Planet Divinity you can get a custom header and footer for $38 and 3D book or CD/DVD covers for $28. For $88 you can get a complete website.
)
As long as you pick quality products to sell you will only enhance your brand. Plus you are building YOUR list and YOUR business not someone else’s.
OK I’ve rambled on enough for now.
To your success

Hi Lee,
I don’t think that someone just starting is going to have the technical know how to do all the things that you are talking about. Plus you can build a list the way you are talking about but you are only building a list of prospects not buyers. You have no way of collecting the email addresses of the people who actually buy and those are the important ones.
As far as competition goes do you really think that there will be less competition with affiliate products?
I don’t I think there will be more.
I stand by my post. I think resale rights and PLR is the best way for someone just starting out.
Thanks for the comment,
Mark
Mark:
Why can’t you build a list while affiliate marketing?
By-pass the owner’s salespage (where they usually have their own opt-in), send them to yours (a review, or audio/video perhaps?) and then straight to the payment processor from the buy button or, more likely, your follow-up emails.
In my experience, PLR needs so much re-working, I might as well write the product myself! Maybe, because I’m a copywriter, I just can’t stand poor quality PLR stuff.
Also, any done-for-you business-in-a-box has a short shelf life and lots of competition so you might as well build a real business investing the same time & money in your list!
Need some help writing headlines, bullet points and subject lines?
I searched thru my hard drives and binders and compiled a big list of headlines that have been proven effective to use when writing article titles, Twitter posts, email subject lines, etc.:
